Mobile devices have been growing rapidly and along with them our dictionary. There are a ton of terms being thrown around these days in the mobile space and sometimes it may be a a little confusing to keep up with them. Below are a few terms that are thrown around often along with some additional info and facts.
Smart Phone - Although there is no "official" definition of what makes a "smart phone" (as opposed to a feature phone) but generally speaking it has become expected that they will have the ability to run 3rd party applications.
iOS - iOS is the operating system of Apple's iPhone and iPad. Unlike Google, Apple makes the software and hardware for all the devices they sell which many claim allow for a tighter, more fluid integration.
Android - Android is an operating system designed by Google and licensed free of charge to smart phone and tablet manufacturers. Android has become the leading Smart phone operating system while Samsung leads the market in Smart phone handsets (most of which use Android)
App - An app, or mobile application, refers to software that is written specifically for smart devices and are usually disseminated through central locations such as the Apple "App Store" or Google Play.
Mobile Website - A website that is designed specifically and optimized for viewing on smart phone screens. Mobile websites take into account the fact that viewing a site designed for the 12-21 inch screens common on desktop or laptop computers does not translate well to the 3.5-4.5 inch screens of Smart phones.
