  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

The Wellness Explosion Is The Key To Holistic Health for African-Americans

As many readers know by now, "African-Americans" (aka descendants of enslaved Africans in America) are contracting diseases and other health problems at an alarming rate, often "taking the lead" in deaths from sicknesses that were very rare in our community just one or two generations ago.  While many people, including other Black Americans, assume these health issues are a result of some "paranoia" with hospitals and medical doctors, I consider that argument somewhat shallow, given the past and present forms of medical "racial profiling" that we have experianced for generations.  Combine this with the fact that people of variousl Ethnic backgrounds in America may be living longer...but on several different drugs per person, and often living in pain....then one can see there is more to our situation than the old "Black folk don't go to the doctor" excuse.

Considering the fact that the Black community curently does not have any real INFRASTRUCTURE in critical areas effecting our survival ( health being one of them), we should be the first group of people to look at alternatives to the norm.  Do you know the difference between the Wellness Indsustry and the Sickness treatment industry?  Did you know that wellness deals with your spiritual, mental, and physical health?   Did you know that most of the medical procedures we undergo and pills we take treat the SYMPTOMS to our problems, not the CAUSES?  Did you know that the Wellness Indsustry addresses the causes of our ailments via "preventative maintenance" and safer treatment?   Did you know that the wellness Industry is expected to be a $Trillion per year Industry by the year 2010, according to World Documented Economist, Paul Zane Pilzer?  Do you know the fastest growing segment of the Industry?  Based upon the information you recieved above, you can get in on the GROUND FLOOR of this Industry?

If the answer to any one of these questions (or more) is "no", then it's time for you to examine the wellness Industry.  This indsutry is more than just preventative maintenance, or someone trying to sell you the latest product at a health food store.  The true power of this industry lies in intellectual distribution on how you can obtain an keep a healthy lifestyle.   Contrary to popular belief, many Black folk go to the doctor...but we may have problem paying for the two or three prescribed drugs with side effects WORSE than the medical condition!  Not to mention other conditions like lack of affordable health insurance, no insurance, etc.  However, the wellness Industry is relatively NEW to America, in terms of years an potential.  Asia is leading the way right now.  We have a chance to revolutionize the way we take care of ourselves.  So go ahead, get familiar with this industry.  Do your homework.  As we members of 8th Wonder enterprises always say "docuementation beats conversation any day".  Thus, we of the 8th Wonder organization know you will be enlightened by what you find.

Be blessed with good health,

Samuel Burnham
