  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

Finally I...

Obama vs. McCain -- 41 days to go. Deal or No Deal?

The campaign was taken to new levels of drama when John McCain "suspended" his campaign to offer his help with the bail-out proposal before Congress.  His tactic failed when his calculation that a "deal" would be reached fell apart.  He bet that if he advised the President o invite Barack Obama and the congressional leaders to the White House, and a successful deal was reached, then he could claim credit for taking the lead in calling everyone together in the interest of "country first."

What happened was a gathering at the White House, where the key decision makers were presented with "Deal or No Deal",  and the answer was "No Deal."  This left McCain with no alternative proposal of his own, a group of "maverick Republicans" in the House who killed the deal, and exposure of his stunt as an empty tactic which produced no results.

The other "Deal or No Deal" he now must confront is the first Presidential Debate.

Now, he is in the position of having to answer the question -- "Debate or No Debate?"  Will he show up?  Will his latest stunt sabotage his campaign?

What do you think?
