Attitude Counts ... 1/13/2013

Sunday School Lesson for 1/13/13. Unit II. Exalting Christ. Attitude Counts. Philippians 2:5-11.


This text/Scripture has been known as the Philippian hymn.


Philippians 2:5-11 ... The mind of Christ: humiliation and exaltation.


Unity - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. (KJV)


Jesus Christ is our example of love, humility, & selflessness.


(Ephesians 4:2 - be humble, patient, gentle, bearing with each other in love)


Philippians 2:5 .... Jesus Christ; Offices of Christ; Christ Our Example


We should have a humble attitude daily.


(Philippians 4:2 - Paul wrote to address strife in the Philippian Church)


Oneness of mind/purpose is the cure for strife.


Paul told the Philippian Church to have same mind, attitude, and love that Jesus had.


Our total dependence is on Christ.


Jesus Christ was humble and served others.


We are free will agents - we choose our own attitude.


Philippians 2:6-8


Verse 6 - Jesus Christ; Christ's Divinity; Is Made Equal With God


Verses 7,8 - Jesus Christ; Christ's Humanity; Christ's Incarnation


Christ's conception was by supernatural/miracle; He grew in the womb as a baby (Luke 2:52). Christ was 100% human on earth; but He was perfect, sinless, & holy (John 8:46; II Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15)


Philippians 2:9-11


Verse 9 - Jesus Christ; Christ's Divinity; Christ Possesses the Attributes of God, Is Superior to Men and Angels


Verse 10 - Jesus Christ; Christ's Divinity; Christ Possesses the Attributes of God, Is An Object of Worship


Verse 11 - Jesus Christ; Christ's Divinity; Is Called Lord


Christ is at the right hand of His Father (Hebrews 1:3)


Isaiah prophecy is fulfilled (Isaiah 52:13) by God exalting His Son.


(At the name of Jesus demons tremble)


Christ has a name above every name. Christ is sitting at the right hand of God and has taken back His divine privileges (Hebrews 12:2)


Every knee shall bow (Romans 10:9; Revelation 4:10-11; II Thessalonians 1:7-9; I Peter 3:18-22)


Psalm 2 - every thing/being will bow before Christ.


God don't offer second chances once the blood has stopped running in your veins in your body (Hebrews 9:27)


At times/some individuals are driven by the need to succeed exploit/step on others and abuse power as they fight their way to the top ................................. Jesus has on record a model for us to follow: selflessness, obedience, servanthood, and humility.


We are to grow in faith and serve others.
