Maggie Lena Walker:

St. Luke Savings & Bank Opened Its Doors On November 2, 1903, In Richmond, Virginia.
Opening Day Receipts Totaled $9,430.44.

Today Called Consolidated Bank & Trust Company. It Holds The Distinction The 10th Largest African American Owned Bank, As Well As Being America's Oldest Continually-Operated,  Minority-Owned Bank.

St. Luke Bank Was Founded And Operated By Maggie Lena Walker. It Was The First Bank In America To Be Run By A Woman.

A True Entrepreneur, Walker Also Owned A Printing Plant, Office Building And Other Businesses. She Also Edited A Newspaper.

It's Said That Black Residents Enjoyed Having A Successful Black Business Woman In The Community. They Liked To Watch As She Rode Around Town In A Chauffeur-Driven Limousine.

Walker Died In 1934, At The Age Of 69. Her House At 110A East Leigh Street In Richmond, Virginia, Was Designated A National Historic Landmark.
