  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

Recent events have raised the profile of historical injustice and inequities here in the USA. The entire world has taken note of the fact that BLACK LIVES MATTER.   We invite all of our friends to engage in actions that result in the greatest movement for change in our history. It is imperative that we take advantage of this opportunity to affect a positive change by ACTING IN OUR SELF-INTERESTS.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS - MICHELE TOLBERT PLOSS

 JUNE 12, 2011
To Mr. Enoch Mubarak from Michele Tolbert Ploss

QUESTIONS AND CONCERN:
Your writings appear hostile not because no one agrees with you but because of your tone. You may very (well have) valid points to deliver, however your tone is deafening.

1.) What is the difference between "black" and "African American"?

2.) You speak of the 21st Century, is that a movement you are wedded to or a term you use?

3.) why do you attack "black professional writers" in the African American forum"?

4.) Do you consider yourself non-professional or not black or what?

5.) Your writings appear hostile not because no one agrees with you but because of your tone. In my opinion "fresh ideas" are often stand alone, yet they resonate in the minds of the fertile, take root and grow.

ANSWERS AND EXPLAINATION:

5.) It is in your "opinion" that "fresh ideas" are often stand alone, yet they resonate in the minds of the fertile, take root and grow.

It is from my "experience" and "empirical knowlege" that "fresh ideas" comes from "original thoughts" and "fresh discussions."

"My original thoughts" only read "hostile and aggressive" because there are no surrounding original thoughts to compliment or accompany mine.

As far as the "tone" of my discussions are concerned it has been previously established that:

"We are all adults here and we can read"
Monroe Anderson

Under those guidelines of being adults capable of reading and comprehension there is no need nor requirement to walk around on egg shells especially when I am talking to you and not about you.

There is no need to stand on protocol giving way to "tone." when discussing vital matters of life and death among adults especially since the discussions are not of foreign or diplomatic value.

We are all adult discussioning matters of indivisible interest because under the current circumstances, state of affairs and conditions on the ground... when the wagon comes we all will go.

The shortest distance between to destinations is a straight line therefore to answer or address any other concerns you may have simply read Undercover Smart.
