  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Stay Cute While Getting Fit

OMG, it’s time to get that sexy back, to fit into that cute little swimsuit, or just start that journey to becoming healthier and fit, but for some of us, our hair is hindering our progress. Many women spend a lot of time and/or money on their hair, so they may forgo this essential part of life. Below are some tips, styles and products that will help you stay cute while getting fit.

Natural hair can be a little tricky, especially if you don’t have wash-n-go curly hair, like me.

My number one, go-to style is braid extensions because they are low maintenance and double as a protective style. They can also be worn for an extended period of time as long as they are taken care of properly. The product combination in Sweet Nature by Eddie’s braid kit will further the benefits of braid extensions as it provides great hydration for the hair; will strengthen the strands, nourish the scalp and stimulate the follicles as well as instruct you on the best way to maintain this style. First timers USE CODE TryME for 15% off

I also love to rock the Afro Puff. After working out, I can wash, condition, detangle and moisturize my hair and just push it back into a puff in a matter of 30 minutes. On days that I do not deep condition or if I just want to rinse my hair; the time is cut into less than half! (I am a little ashamed to say that sometimes, I just skip the detangling part and just push it back, then it takes 2 minutes…lol). This style is easily achieved with wetting the hair. Putting some Wisdom heavy moisturizer or NEW HOLD ME TIGHT CREAM  along the hair line and pushing it back. You can put a satin scarf around the hair line to lay it down for a few minutes. I usually use Dream  on the actual puff  to keep it hydrated throughout the day. The Wisdom kit combines all of the products necessary to achieve this style (with this texture) while strengthening and hydrating the hair.  The Dream Cream Kit is great for those with a less coarse, curlier texture. Don't forget, to use code "TryMe" if you've never tried Sweet Nature by Eddie!

Two French braids are back and can be done rather quickly. You can put this style in before working out and then just rinse the  hair with luke warm water after working out (if you sweat a lot you can add a little apple cider vinegar-acv).  Wisdom is also good for braiding the hair while aiding in keeping it hydrated. You can also do two quick flat twists just as easily. I rocked this style over the weekend and got mad compliments. The Wisdom Kit is also excellent for this style and hair texture. The Dream Cream Kit is great for those with less a less coarse, curlier hair texture.

French braids (with or without extensions) are also an excellent choice for workout hair. These braids, leave access to the scalp, so running warm water through them to clean the scalp is easy (add a little shampoo and/or acv to a cup of water). It’s also great for people that use the cotton swab or cotton ball method of cleaning their scalp. To condition the hair, a leave-in conditioning spray can be used and Growth Daily moisturizing spray is excellent to keep it hydrated

These are just a few quick and easy styles that can be easily created and maintained while working out.
